Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center and Mosque holds its first service.

June 26, 2009

Architect: Steffian Bradley Architects. Some 1,800 people attend the service at the mosque, which includes a 140-foot tall minaret [125-MM], and is located at 1 Malcolm X Boulevard. The congregation was established in 1958 by students at local universities and met initially in Cambridge. William Suhaib Webb is the first imam. Ground was broken for the building on November 7, 2002, but construction was delayed by lawsuits filed by individuals and groups charging that some of the congregation’s members were involved with extremist groups.
